Morris E. Tipton, Jr.

Reverend Morris E. Tipton, Jr. is the proud Pastor of the First Baptist Church of East Nashville (2015-present).

Under his leadership, the church has: fully renovated the Sanctuary; established a weekly outreach ministry in a community overridden with drug sales and addiction, prostitution, and homelessness, held in the parking lot of a nite-club; instituted an annual back-to-school bash where youth are able to secure school supplies, receive free haircuts, and free physicals; and convert the annual church picnic to a community outreach event.

For over eleven years (2003-2014), he faithfully served on the full-time ministerial staff of the Reverend Dr. Julius R. Scruggs at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. In the discharge of his duties, Reverend Tipton had direct responsibility for the Youth, College, and Young Adult Ministries, management of the church’s website, and served as chaplain for the church’s Child Development Center and Academy.

As a corporate professional, Reverend Tipton has served in senior leadership for the following: National Baptist Publishing Board; Sunday School Publishing Board; Gospel Today Magazine; and The Urban Journal. From 2000-2002, he owned and operated a weekly news publication in Nashville, TN entitled Urban Flavor. In October of 2014, Reverend Tipton returned to Nashville as he rejoined the Sunday School Publishing Board as Director of Operations (he currently serves as Director of Sales and Business Development).

Reverend Tipton, a graduate of Tennessee State University and American Baptist College, has been married to his college sweetheart Melody since June of 1990. Together, they have raised three children and are the proud grandparents of three grandsons (with one on the way).
