Morris E. Tipton, Jr.

Reverend Morris E. Tipton, Jr. is the proud Pastor of the First Baptist Church of East Nashville (2015-present). He is also the Senior Director of Publishing Administration for the Sunday School Publishing Board (2014-present).  He holds the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Tennessee State University and the Bachelor of Theology Degree from the American Baptist College of the American Baptist Theological Seminary.
For over eleven years (2003-2014), he faithfully served on the full-time ministerial staff of the Reverend Dr. Julius R. Scruggs at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. In the discharge of his duties, Reverend Tipton had direct responsibility for the Youth, College, and Young Adult Ministries as well as direct management of the church’s website and serving as chaplain for the church’s Child Development Center and Academy.
Reverend Tipton was licensed to preach in October of 1995 and ordained for Christian ministry in February of 2003.
As a corporate professional, Reverend Tipton has served as Publications Coordinator for both the National Baptist Publishing Board and the Sunday School Publishing Board. Reverend Tipton also served as General Manager for Gospel Today Magazine, a Christian Lifestyles Magazine. From 2000-2002, Reverend Tipton owned and operated a weekly news publication in Nashville, TN entitled Urban Flavor. In October of 2014, Reverend Tipton returned to Nashville as he rejoined the Sunday School Publishing Board as Director of Operations.
Reverend Tipton has been married to his college sweetheart Melody since June of 1990. Together, they have raised three children: Shayla Overton (COVID casualty in 2020); Morris III (son); and Morgan (daughter). The Tipton’s are also the proud grandparents of two grandsons; Michael and Maxwell Overton.
Additionally, Reverend Tipton is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. and was a drummajor in the Tennessee State University marching band.
